Mail fail on shiny new McBook
Posted on Jul 27th by William in William's IT strategy
Pfff. Bought a new McBook Pro because the old black McBook casing keeps cracking and I had a near-miss water accident. So I decided to get a clone, because I’d be stuffed if the work machine packed up.
Prices have gone down, the cloning process via some stupid proprietary wire works well. It needs yet another different proprietary converter to project. We can live with than.
All is well until McMail stops receiving on the new machine (in mid heavy correspondence with dozens and dozens of people – there’s never a good time). Hell. I had this before with the black McBook.
So I have figured this out before – but I cant for the life of me remember how. Using Version 3.6 (935/935.3)
on Mac OS 10.5.7
This am lost ability to receive mail on all accounts
“Get Mail” does no spinning icon
Every mailbox is online
Have several mail accounts, some with web access also.
Web works fine
Connection to ISP is OK via Mail’s Connection DOctor
test mail goes OK to web mail and other platforms (so Mail can SEND)
WTF?
(backup McBook has Mail 3.5 (930.3) on Mac OS 10.5.6 – works OK for now)

I’m not smug and am feeling sorry for you
Has it transferred the Pop servers for each account over? By the fact that you can send, it has got the SMTP servers.
I shd add – it WAS working fine for a fortnight or so. And then stopped. So something has changed, or got corrupted.
OK – you have to back up the mailboxes, deep breath, delete all the account, recreate all the accounts and sync the old contents back. It worked OK; didnt have to use the backups. Seems to be working fine now. So an annoying, known fault of McMail. Not the end of the world (just felt a bit like it last night when I was tired)
